The schedule of the AW09 season has officially ended at its last stop in the New York-London-Milan-Paris circuit. As with the previous three fashion weeks, there were revisitations of the 80's - shoulders (but of course), ruffles and sequinned anything. Overall, Paris didn't disappoint and there were a lot more favourites compared to Milan.

Balenciaga// Chloe

Hussein Chalayan// Ann Demeulemeester

Sophia Kokosalaki// Louis Vuitton

Lanvin// Veronique Branquinho

Limi Feu// Comme des Garcons

Isabel Marant// Givenchy

Maison Martin Margiela// Undercover

Miu Miu// Dries Van Noten

Vivienne Westwood/ Sonia Rykiel

Yohji Yamamoto// Junya Watanabe

We mentioned last week the collaboration between Yohji Yamamoto and Salvatore Ferragamo for a line of shoes which were set to be unveiled this fashion week. Seen on the runway in black, red or white, these sculpted flat boots with a cut-out above the heel (in red) were absoutely covetable. In case you've forgotten about the post last week, here's a reminder to those who might want to get their hands on the shoes: they will be available early July at both Yohji Yamamoto and Salvatore Ferragamo flagship stores.

Pamela Anderson made an (surprising to some) appearance on the runway at the Vivienne Westwood AW09 show after having been featured in the Westwood Spring/ Summer 09 advertising campaign. Fans of Pammy can check out the runway photos here.

And lastly, for those of us who missed out on the discounts over Christmas at Madison Avenue might weep a little to know that that’s not going to happen again in our lifetime according to Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst for NPD Group, a retailing consultancy. Spring discounts may come earlier but it looks like the 80-90% price slash will not be making a comeback. Of course it makes no sense for us (Read: me) to be upset with such news since New York isn't making its way over to me anytime soon... but still... to think of the possibilities! One can dream.

Surprised you didn't mention how the heavy shoulders these past seasons were influenced by the revolutionary genius that is Martin Margiela – who did exaggerated shoulders THREE seasons back. This is the man who in the late 80's shocked the fashion world by doing away with shoulderpads, creating slimmer more bodyhugging designs.

Also why didn't feature Alexander McQueen in your above list? That collection was probably the most dramatic in Paris! Long live AM.

Isobel: True, Martin Margiela is indeed revolutionary and you're right. There was the pointed shoulder pads and my favourite is his use of wigs (??) incorporated into garments. But since this is a post about our picks in Paris, I steered clear of further talk about the genius that is Margiela (or even Prada when in Milan). I suspect that would be better done in a separate post altogether although whether it is something I can/ will do is another matter altogether. :p

As for why McQueen was left out in the list - like I said, this is just our picks. True fashion lovers can stone me to death for what I'm about to say next but I have yet to be able to fully appreciate his work. Give me a bit more time... and perhaps one day I will add him to my favourites.
