They say all good things come in twos and Japanese casual wear brand UNIQLO sure knows how to do it bigger and better with the opening of their second outlet in swanky ION Orchard. The words “duplex” and “collection launch ahead of Japan” won’t hinder the shopaholics from grabbing anything they can get their hands on.

Few days before the launch, UNIQLO invited the media and close friends for an exclusive closed-door sneak peek of the 10,000 sq ft store. Such is the exclusivity of the store’s content before its unveiling, UNIQLO did not remove the temporarily constructed wooden panels of its store front. If you’re not invited, you’re just treated to the sight of its giant fonts stating that it is “OPENING SOON”.

Upon entering the store, you are “ambushed” by a verbal assault of unison greetings from the staff. It wasn’t bad considering each guest was given a $100 voucher and a goodie bag filled with UNIQLO offerings.
In what seemed like a spontaneous move, managing director of UNIQLO Singapore, Mr Satoshi Onoguchi, proceeded to stand on a step ladder to deliver his short opening address.

The main highlight is the launch of the Fall/Winter ’09 collection, which makes its worldwide debut in Singapore even before its parent country Japan.

Check out the neo-leather collection, which is a range of luxury synthetic leather that is made lightweight enough to be worn in a tropical climate like ours.

Another new release is the 3D fit jeans aka skinny jeans. It is specially developed to fit the form and movement of the human body. Even tight jeans can seem “loose”.

As the number one casual wear brand in Japan, UNIQLO has got their basics right. Even down to the bras and brollies.

UNIQLO is also known for their range of colourful, one-of-a-kind graphic tees.

Take the flight of stairs down to the menswear department.

From neo-leather jackets, knitted sweaters, blazers, shirts to jeans; the menswear department stocks up a great variety of chic clothes for the modern man.
