Elevated shoulders, manipulated fabrics or the concept of 3-D is an apparent trend this season. Manila’s top young designers like Joey Samson, Ivarluski Aseron and Puey Quinones are some of the few who’ve successfully executed such trends from their Fashion Watch Series collections last 2008 to prepare for Spring 2009’s look book.

In ode to architectural dresses, I thought I’d share a shoot my partner and I styled, which was for the YStyle section of the Philippine Star Newspaper featuring these three designers. Shot at G Hotel in Malate Manila, its black and white interior set the perfect backdrop for their cleverly constructed creations.

Joey Samson Design 1
Flipped out: A tuxedo dress designed backside-front, gives this mannish classic some feminine flare.

Joey Samson Design 2
Pretty pleats please: Pleating in the right places add much flattering texture to any design.

Puey Quinones
Turn this opulent gown (with mother of pearl buttons) to a chic cocktail dress as its fan-like skirt is actually detachable!

Ivarluski Aseron Design 1
Fashionably origami: Puffed and semi-folded shoulders give this mini dress great visual interest which is balanced by the black piping detail across the chest.

Ivarluski Aseron Design 2
Shoulder to lean on: Elevated shoulders give this chic cocktail dress some personality and is femininely toned down with a french lace inset.
