Last week, Joyce, Happy and I went for the MODA (Malaysian Official Designers Association) Unity Showcase, the finale for MODA’s Fashion Gateway. The event was held in conjunction with 1 Utama’s annual event, Fashion On 1 - “Fashion Takes Flight.”
As you can probably tell, it’s sort of mall fashion week season – we’ve covered the Gardens and Mid Valley ones thus far, and The Curve will be hosting theirs next.
The event was hosted by the ever flamboyant and entertaining Edwin Sumun, who had to keep the crowd from up and leaving for the two hours the showcase was delayed for. (We heard) The event was thrown off schedule because a batch of clothes were delivered late.
Gillian Hung, the president of MODA, eventually emerged to officially kickstart the event with a short speech.
The opening performance was by the CHARM cheerleading squad.
Last year’s winner, Joyce Wong (not to be mistaken for TiC’s Joyce Wong) presented her collection first.
Then this year’s Mercedes-benz Stylo young designer winner, Andy Yap took his turn to remind us of his capabilities.
Followed by Michelle Shia.
And Joe Chia, both runner ups to Andy Yap.
Because the showcase featured a whopping 38 designers limited to 4 to 5 designs per collection, I’ll give you snippets of what we saw.
