At the recent Milk magazine 2nd anniversary party, I was introduced to Kim Xu – a very talented young artist from Suzhou. Many may not have heard of him but he is starting to carve his name in China’s art and fashion industry.
At a young age of 19, this pretty boy moved to Shanghai to pursue his passion for art and fashion. He is known for his talent to fuse both traditional Chinese watercolors with Western oil based techniques to create figurative fashion design illustrations.

Each art piece has a unique and elegant effect which according to Kim “speaks of beauty, passion, love and despair.”
Recently, Vogue magazine praised Kim as China‘s most important up-and-coming artist and was commissioned by Vogue China to do a special edition feature of "fashion meets art". When Hong Kong luxury brands boutique “JOYCE” threw their 1st anniversary party In May, Kim worked with Joyce to create 10 paintings inspired by 10 top designer outfits exclusively available at the Plaza 66 boutique in Shanghai.

The event had models dressed and styled exactly to Kim’s paintings, which were later auctioned of. A little bird told me that he will soon be collaborating with Dior.

With all these high profile events and editorials in his portfolio, you are sure to hear more about Kim Xu in the coming future.
