Hewlett-Packard is making a fashion statement in its recent collaboration with Vivienne Tam for its HP Mini Vivienne Tam edition due to be released in Asia end of January 2009, just as it coincides with Chinese New Year. Think dragon, Chinese motifs, oriental spirals and peonies. I happened to be one of the lucky few invited to the event in Tokyo

Vivienne Tam is a leading designer fashion house founded in 1994 and had since produced, designed and marketed women’s contemporary apparel distributed in major stores and boutiques throughout the U.S. and also in Asia Pacific. Her collection became much sought after by celebrities from all around the world and she is currently based in New York.
The HP Mini Vivienne Tam edition is a really small laptop designed with heavy peonies against red background. According to Vivienne, peonies are her favourite, being the national flowers of homeland China.
The preview of the featured “digital clutch” took place at Honey’s Garden at Roponggi, Tokyo, Japan. The special event saw the presence of Japanese celebrities like jazz singer Marlene Lim, and Miss Japan 2007 Kurara Chibana.

International models strut down the catwalk in Vivienne’s latest Spring Collection 2008.

It was peony mania, with majority of dresses designed with same peonies as on the digital clutch. Even scarves of the peony design were given out to guests – celebrities and the media all around Asia Pacific.

Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing of HP Personal Systems Group, Satjiv Chalil was also seen wearing Vivienne’s handkerchief in his front pocket and a tie of that similar design, short of him wearing a turban of that designed, he joked.

Peonies symbolize prosperity, good fortune and happiness in Chinese culture and even the special edition keyboard is smooth with a “Double Happiness” Enter button.

Estimated to cost around USD$799.00
