Remember how we proclaimed Barbie as our Icon Of The Week during her birthday? Well, Mattel went as far as opening a 6-storey megastore for Barbie in all her pink glory! Which is strange, because between you and me, Barbie doll sales took a plunge by 21% this year.

The flagship store will hold the most comprehensive collection of Barbie dolls and products the world has ever seen, and will host a range of services and activities for Barbie fans young and old alike.
There’ll be a catwalk with Barbie-esque clothes for little girls to trotter about on, and a Barbie Design Centre where girls can customize their own Barbie dolls, something like Build-a-Bear.
For older fans, Mattel has commissioned Vera Wang to cook up a $A22,000 Barbie-influenced wedding dress. There’ll also be an exclusive Patricia Field collection up for sale, a day spa, cafe and a bar. The bar, called the Pink Room, comes complete with a DJ and pink martinis so that every girl can find their Ken.
Connecting all the floors together is the Pink Tunnel neon-lit escalator that plays back girlish giggles as you ride it. Sounds creepy, but okay! What do you think of the store’s opening in the midst of what many are predicting to be the worst global economic downturn? Would you visit the store? I reckon parts of the concept are pretty interesting, especially the Pink Room!
